Interface Meeting on Animal Genetic Resources in Nagaland

On the auspicious occasion of the 36th Foundation Day, ICAR - National Research Centre on Mithun, Nagaland had the privilege of hosting an Interface Meeting on Animal Genetic Resources in Nagaland. This meeting, chaired by the esteemed Dr. BP Mishra, Director, ICAR - NBAGR, Karnal brought together stakeholders, including scientists from ICAR - NRC on Mithun, ICAR Nagaland Centre, Nagaland University, and officials from the State Animal Husbandry Department.

One of the key takeaways from the meeting was the urgent need to expedite conservation efforts for the indigenous breeds of goat and pig registered in Nagaland. The meeting emphasized our collective responsibility toward preserving these unique breeds. In his address, Director NBAGR urged State Department officials to actively participate in the identification and registration of more livestock and poultry breeds native to the region. This proactive approach will be instrumental in safeguarding the invaluable genetic resources of Nagaland.
