Exploring mithun rearing pockets near Dirang district, Arunachal Pradesh

Exploring mithun rearing pockets near Dirang district and engaging with local farmers has been a remarkable experience. With the support of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Arunachal Pradesh, and ICAR NRC on Yak, we delved into the mithun rearing areas in the Dirang and West Kameng regions. Places like Dirang village and Nafra village are home to over 1,000 mithun animals.

Dr. Yallappa M.S. from NRC on Mithun, along with Dr. Shubham Loat and Dr. Ninad Bhat from ICAR NRC on Yak, interacted with the farmers to discuss the challenges and solutions in mithun rearing. They conducted a comprehensive survey to understand the strengths and weaknesses in rearing this unique species, aiming to support and enhance the livelihoods of the local farming communities by ICAR - NRC on Mithun.
