Awareness cum Technology Injection Programme on "Scientific Mithun Rearing for Improving Livelihood" under the Tribal Sub-Plan
On July 18, 2024, the ICAR-NRC on Mithun in Medziphema organized an Awareness cum Technology Injection Programme on "Scientific Mithun Rearing for Improving Livelihood" under the Tribal Sub-Plan. Approximately 163 farmers attended the event. This initiative was part of a broader capacity-building program aimed at educating, creating awareness, and enhancing knowledge and skills related to livestock husbandry, with a particular focus on Mithun husbandry practices, to benefit the entire farming community.The program commenced with a welcome and keynote address by the Village Council head of Ghotovi village, who emphasized the continued necessity of such initiatives. Dr. H. Inato Jimomi, Joint Director cum Principal of VFATI, Medziphema, then delivered a speech on the "Importance of Scientific Semi-intensive Mithun Farming," providing valuable insights to the attending farmers.Lectures on common diseases of livestock and their mitigation measures were given by Dr. Plabita Goswami. Dr. Narendra V.N. also delivered a speech on entrepreneurship development in Mithun farming. Dr. Nazrul Haque, Principal Scientist, highlighted the initiatives of ICAR-NRC on Mithun for promoting semi-intensive Mithun farming in Nagaland, followed by a Farmer-Scientist interaction program focusing on disease control, where Dr. Jayanta Kumar Chamuah provided valuable information.These presentations and discussions were integral parts of the program's agenda, aimed at enhancing scientific Mithun farming to improve production performance and livelihoods of the farmers.
