‘Second Mithun Day’

NRC on Mithun, Nagaland celebrates ‘Second Mithun Day’ in collaboration with Department of AHV&DD, Arunachal Pradesh & @National Rainfed Authority of India, New Delhi with technical support from Circ Meerut, Nrc On Yak Icar, ICAR-NIBSM & ICAR - NMRI and Indian Meat Science Association.

Chief Guest of the function - Hon’ble Governor of Arunachal Pradesh His excellency Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.) inaugurated the two-day National Seminar on ‘Integrated Mithun Farming for Enhancing Farmers Income in North Eastern Region of India’ being held as a part of the second edition of ‘Mithun Day’ celebration at DK Convention Centre in Itanagar today. He also released status papers, leaflets and literature on Mithun, souvenir of the celebration and presented awards to progressive Mithun Farmers on the occasion.

In the inaugural address, the Governor expressed hope that the celebration and the National Seminar will have a rewarding and desirable impact on the protection, conservation and optimum valuable uses of Mithun. He said that among the North Eastern States, the highest Mithun population is located in Arunachal Pradesh, which stands 89% of the total population in the whole world. He said it is a great pride for the farmers as well as the people of Arunachal Pradesh to have such special animals nurtured in the state.

Guests of Honor Shri Gabriel D. Wangsu, Hon’ble Minister of AHV&DD, Dr. S. P. Kimothi, Member (AS&FS), ASRB, New Delhi, and Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, DDG (AS), ICAR, New Delhi, graced the occasion. Additionally, special guests, former DDGs (AS) of ICAR, Dr. K.M.L. Pathak and Dr. H. Rahman, also attended the event.

The main objective of the ‘Mithun Day’ celebration and national seminar is to discuss the prospects and challenges in Mithun husbandry to augment the productivity of Mithuns.
