ICAR-NRCM's Collaborative “Mithun Mela cum Farmers-Scientists Interaction” with ICAR-NMRI in Khonoma Village, Kohima

On November 15, 2023, the ICAR - National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland, in collaboration with the ICAR - National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad, successfully organized "Mithun Mela cum Farmers-Scientists Interaction" in Khonoma Village, Kohima. The event featured Dr. Ravi Yadav, Director, National Rainfed Area Authority, New Delhi, as the esteemed Chief Guest. The program commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Narendra V N, Scientist (Agricultural Extension), and a keynote address by Dr. Kobu Khate, Chief Technical Officer (CTO). Subsequently, scientists from ICAR-NRCM delivered informative presentations on Mithun farming, focusing on the unique challenges faced by Khonoma Mithun farmers.

Dr. Ravi Yadav expressed appreciation for ICAR-NRCM's initiatives in Khonoma village, highlighting the importance of innovative technologies developed in laboratories to directly benefit Mithun farmers. Dr. Girish Patil, S. encouraged farmers to actively participate in Mithun farming, emphasizing the significance of regular communication with ICAR-NRCM for continuous improvement in Mithun farming practices. He also urged farmers to establish a "Mithun park" to fetch higher income.

The event facilitated dynamic interaction between farmers and scientists, providing a platform for farmers to seek clarifications on various aspects of Mithun farming, all of which were addressed by scientists from ICAR-NRCM. Dr. Narendra V.N. played a key role in spearheading the organization of the program alongside Dr. Kobu Khate. The coordination of the event was skillfully managed by Dr. J.K. Chamuah, Dr. S.S. Hanah, Dr. Vikram R, and Dr. Plabita Goswami. The active participation of over 100 Mithun farmers significantly contributed to the success of the event.
