“One-day training programme cum interaction on Scientific Animal Husbandry in Collaboration with NDRI ERS Kalyani.
On August 7, 2024, ICAR-NDRI-ERS, Kalyani, hosted a significant training and interaction programme aimed at enhancing animal husbandry practices among Scheduled Caste (SC) farmers from Nadia district. The event, organized by ICAR-NRC on Mithun in collaboration with ICAR-NDRI-ERS, Kalyani, was designed to equip local farmers with scientific knowledge and practical skills essential for profitable and sustainable animal husbandry.
Dr. Santanu Banik, Head of ERS at ICAR-NDRI-ERS, Kalyani, delivered a warm welcoming address, and the training programme was inaugurated by Dr. Girish Patil, Director of NRC-Mithun. This set an optimistic tone for the day's activities.
The comprehensive schedule included a series of insightful lectures and practical sessions led by esteemed scientists. Topics covered included the management of kid and pregnant doe, suitable breeds of goats and cattle for profitable animal husbandry, and nutritional management strategies for cattle and goats, emphasizing the importance of proper feeding practices.
The final segment of the programme featured the distribution of elite female goats and mineral mixtures to SC farmers, followed by a valedictory function. The Director of NRC-Mithun, along with the Head and other staff from ICAR-NDRI-ERS, Kalyani, presided over the distribution. This was a significant moment for the 150 participants (105 men and 45 women), who received valuable resources to support their farming efforts. A total of 85 elite goats and mineral mixtures were distributed.This initiative underscores the commitment of ICAR-NRC on Mithun and ICAR-NDRI-ERS, Kalyani, to support and uplift the farming community through scientific and practical interventions.
