Mithun Vaccination Cum Health Camp

In a significant step towards preventing the spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), a vaccination camp was conducted on 26th September 2024 at Porba village, Phek district by ICAR-NRC on Mithun Porba centre in collaboration with KVK Phek & the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Govt of Nagaland, resulting in the successful vaccination of 164 Mithun. This initiative is part of the FMD vaccination round-IV under National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP). This ongoing effort aims to vaccinate 100% Mithun and other susceptible livestock against FMD, so that a highly contagious disease affecting all cloven-hoofed animals may be controlled by 2025 with vaccination and its eventual eradication by 2030. The team includes Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist & Station I/c NRCM Porba, Dr Kathiravan, Principal Scientist, Dr Harshit Kumar,Scientist, Dr Kobu Khate, Chief Technical Officer, staff of NRCM Porba and many more Para-vets.

We appreciate the cooperation of livestock owners and partner department for successful conduct of the programme. Similar initiatives to be conducted in the near future to ensure the continued health and well-being of Mithun in the state as well as region.
