ICAR - National Research Centre on Mithun, Nagaland launches Cluster based approach for promoting scientific Mithun production practices - May 12, 2023

ICAR-NRC on Mithun has initiated work on a cluster-based approach for promoting scientific Mithun production in North East India. As part of this, the Centre has established Mithun Conservation Unit in the Thopovisu Cluster, Phek district, Nagaland State. The unit was inaugurated by Dr. B. N. Tripathi, DDG (AS), ICAR on 12th April 2023. In the Thopovisu cluster, an Animal health camp cum vaccination programme was organized on 12th May 2023. In the camp more than 60 Mithun belonging to the cluster were ear tagged with the INAPH ear tags, all Mithun were FMD vaccinated, their health was examined and the blood samples were collected for screening of the diseases. Animals infested with ectoparasites were administered Ivermectin. Samples of leeches prevalent in the area were collected for characterization. Further, issues related to Mithun farmers were recorded using the structural schedule. On the occasion, Dr Girish Patil, S., Director, Scientists and Technical Officers interacted with the farmers and discussed various problems and requirements for the betterment of the Mithun farmers. Farmers of the cluster were happy with the services provided by NRCM. The Institute will continuously monitor the cluster and will provide all possible technical support for enhancing the production and productivity of the Mithun herd. Team consisting of Dr. Lalzampuia, H., Dr. Narendra., V. N., Dr. K. Khate, Dr. K. Vupru and Dr. Lozo coordinated the activities.
